Active Roles Customize Error message in Web Interface

Hello all,

I have a script running some checks as part of the PreModify function and throwing and exception if an ID is not unique forest wide, this is working nicely but I was wondering if it is possible to customize what is shown on screen.

What I mean is changing the links displayed under "Look for solution" or at least add an option like an internal link/email address so that 1st level can contact us directly.

Just in case this is the code I use to throw an exception

[string]$exceptionMessage = "ID is not Unique Forest Wide!"
		[System.FormatException]$idException = New-Object System.FormatException $exceptionMessage
		throw $idException

  • Thanks for bringing this up Lethe - We're qually interested in a solution allowing localization of the information presented here. My ticket system has knowledge articles to follow when users report an encounter with this red box...
Our answer is pretty much 'Do what we say, not what we show' ... We'd like a supported - programmatic way to update these values that point to internal URL's.
  • Yep I think this would be a great addition to the product as I think majority of us would benefit from it.

I've been scanning the documentation but so far no luck just couple of old posts in the community but none that could help.

Let's see if somebody has ideas on this.
  • ARS Policy provides option OOB on the policy object itself, to show on ARS UI (Web, MMC) output for end user:
    - the policy name violated
    - the policy description
    - the policy violation message
the same parameters can be set in ARS in-process scripting (PreModify etc.)

  • Good info - Aidar,
specifically looking at the url's shown that direct the impacted user to additional support ..
Currently show/point to "In Active Roles Community" and "In Active Roles Knowledge Base" - both urls traverse the firewall unnecessarily for our customer base. Outside of editing xml manually - is there are way to set these items under "Look for solution" when you get the error pop-up on the web as shown in the attachment to this thread?
Personally, I'd like to direct them to either an internal sharepoint FAQ, or our internal help desk knowledge article on the topic.
  • Thanks Aidan,

Not what I was looking for but got the point, our need is more to point the ops to an internal FAQ system or similar but guess we’re out of look.

Is there any api you are aware of we can leverage to plug-in and extend ars? I have no issues writing some code to handle this but could not find any documentation/pointer in the correct direction.

    Thanks!
