It sounds like the issues described in this KB article; can you check/test?

Clicking "Generate Password" in the Active Roles Web Interface throws the error: Sys.Webforms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown error occurred while processing the request on the server. The status code returned from the server was: 500 (4339126)

Hmm, you're right - the link to the KB with the actual steps to a fix seems broken! I wouldn't know exactly how to tackle this IIS Worker Thread process either.. Maybe raise a quick case with support, referring to the missing info in the KB?
