    • Resolution

Does the Virtual Appliance require a Microsoft license?
Yes, in order to be compliant a Microsoft license is required. This applies to customers, partners, trials , POCs etc.

Is a Microsoft license included when SPP is purchased?
No.The customer must use their own license.

      What Microsoft license is required?
A Windows 10 LTSC (Long Term Servicing Channel) license is required. If the customer does not have a volume license agreement with Microsoft they will need to purchase one of two Microsoft products:

Windows ENT Per Dvc Per Device Upgrade LSA (preferred) or
Virtual Desktop Access E3 Per User Subscriptions

Can One Identity provide the Microsoft license?
No, the license can be purchased from a Microsoft authorised provider
If using a Microsoft product key does it need to be activated?

Yes. In the initial setup Kiosk after entering the product key and saving, Safeguard will attempt to access the Microsoft activation servers. Safeguard will need to be able to directly access these servers and access a DNS server to resolve the Microsoft servers.

Which specific key can be used to install the product?
Support successfully installed using a "Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019" key.

Sorry about that not sure why link did not work for you but hopefully the above will help.
This maybe quite an old KB now so possible they have updated it but as far as I know the version mentions still works.
It does in my lab anyway

  • Windows 10 as well as Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 are not available from 30th October 2022. Could someone update KB and confirm if Windows 11 and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 Upgrade are acceptable by SPP VA

  • You cannot upgrade the underlying OS of SPP because it is a hardened appliance. In regards to the OS license, the Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 is still applicable as the OS is still supported:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-10-enterprise-ltsc-2019

  • Please do not mix end of support and end of sales. If Customer (as in our case) doesn't have Volume Licence agreement with MS, only option to get required Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC  licence is to buy Windows 10 Pro and then upgrade to Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC. But Windows 10 Pro isn't availabba anymore for sales in MS channel. On MS webpage it is possible to purchise till 31st January 2023. There is no way to get required license after that date.

  • To deploy SPP, you'll need a Windows Server license (2016 or later) as it is designed for use on servers.

  • Windows 10 LTSC is designed for use on clients and not suitable for deploying SPP. To get more information, you can look into reddit windows keys topics where you can find more insights. Be sure to purchase a license from a reputable source, avoiding counterfeit or stolen keys.

  • I thought that the SPP appliances were platformed on the Windows 10 LTSC release.

I have .deployed v6 SPP virtual machines on the Windows 10 LTSC version. Cannot speak to SPP v7 as I have not deployed yet.

Tawfiq has provided a link above that states this version is still available and supported until 2029

As I remember the Windows 10 LTSC release is a lot cheaper than a server license as well

If you want a definitive answer though as ever your best bet is to open a case with Support although I doubt their response will be different to that provided by Tawfiq.

    Good luck

    Tim
