Is there anyway within the template code to lookup what the Column Name being calculated is?
We are looking at a way to automate some calculations and it would be useful for us to be able to figure which template is being fired within the template.

No, you cannot. The template code is always running for (or on if you wish to think it this way) the same column it is defined on. It's triggered by data changes on other columns.
There is a little tool option that lists the columns triggering your template in the Designer.
