Upgrade with potential SQL issues

We currently have an 8.0.1 environment which is running on 2016 OS and 2016 SQL.  We need to upgrade to the latest versions of ARS, OS and SQL.  If we build a new environment with SQL 2022 on server 2022, will the Configuration and History database import tools in config center work?

Does anyone have sufficient familiarity with the ARS Configuration & Management History databases to know if their structures would be impacted?

Our previous upgrade from (I believe) 7.4 to 8.0.1 LTS brought several lessons learned regarding not permitting the two environments to have simultaneous control over the domain(s).  Are there any other lessons learned (particularly with upgrades involving 8.1 and 8.2) of which we need to be aware?

  • Both Active Roles 8.0.1 LTS and Active Roles 8.2.1 are compatible with Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and Microsoft SQL Server 2022. You can confirm this is the Release Notes for these versions.

The Active Roles Configuration Center in both versions will be able to work with either database version:

NOTE: Active Roles 8.2.1 will install MSOLEDBSQL19 by default. Microsoft made a functional change in this version of SQL Server client connectivity software: it uses SSL to connect to a SQL Server by default. If SSL is not properly configured, then the connection will not be successful.

As a workaround, Active Roles can be configured to leverage a previous version of MSOLEDBSQL if it is installed:

Solution Title: SSL Certificate chain issue with database
    Solution Number: 4376625
    Solution URL: https://support.oneidentity.com/kb/4376625

As a security best practice, both Microsoft and One Identity recommend properly configuring SSL for your Microsoft SQL Server.

Post-upgrade, after you import the Management History, run the script from this resource:

Solution Title: Dynamic Groups, Scheduled Tasks, Group Families, Automation Workflows, and/or pending Temporal Group Management operations are not functioning after an Active Roles upgrade
