How to set date column value if value is before 01/01/1900

Question

I noticed a weird behaviour of date columns. 
 I created a custom object type and one of the column has Date type. I don't have any templates\formatting scripts\on saving script, etc. 
 If in script I set it to 01/01/1902, everything works fine. But if I set it to 01/01/1802, I can see that in database the value is NULL. 
 
 The same behaviour can be reproduced with Date of BIrth employee attribute in Manager. 
 Is there any reason why it is done this way? Is it possible to change this behaviour? 
 
 I'm using 8.0.1.

There is a minimum date defined for any date datatype and this is 12/30/1899. This behavior cannot be changed. If you need to store dates lower than that, you need to store them in a string column.
