Synchronization Authenticator

We are working with 1IM v8.1.1 and i see 'synchronization authenticator' auth module in WebDesigner Configurator. I was wondering if we could use this to authenticate against LDAP as opposed to AD. Please advise as i see this module doesnt support SSO. Any documentation links on it's description will help as well

For the LDAP use-case, there is the authentication module LDAP user account (role-based) available https://support.oneidentity.com/technical-documents/identity-manager/8.1/authorization-and-authentication-guide/20#TOPIC-1133734

The synchronization authentication module is used by the synchronization engine and it is not allowed to use this user in the frontends or the web portal.
