ARS 8.1 LTS Release Date

Hi Aidar,

We're looking at the second week of February, but that is still subject to change.

8.1 is part of the normal release cycle and not a direct patch for 8.0 LTS.

8.0 LTS will remain and continue to receive bug updates only, whereas 8.1 will receive new features.

I was about to upgrade to LTS this weekend and assumed 8.1 would be a direct upgrade. If thats the case then my upgrade will be on hold until 8.1 is released.

Active Roles 8.0 is the LTS (Long term support) version of the product, where as Active Roles 8.x (where X is greater than 0, ie 8.1) is a feature release.

Upgrading from 8.0 LTS (or previous) to 8.1 feature release is possible, but you would no longer be on a LTS version, and would need to continue to upgrade as new feature release are made available (inline with the Product Life Cycle).

Active Roles 8.0.1 would be the first maintenance release for the LTS version (In the same way that 8.1.1 would be the first maintenance release for the 8.1 feature release version)

Thanks Stu. I think i will hold on for 8.1 in any case. Just to save me two upgrades really.

is it possible to see new features/fixes for AR 8.1 LTS to compare with AR 8.0 LTS? My customer might want to know before making final decision on upgrade: the new features included in AR 8.1 might not be relevant to his concrete situation and therefore no need to wait for AR 8.1 release?

Is there any dates estimate for AR 8.0.1 patch release? 8.0 were released about 3 month ago.

It has not but make sure you understand the "new world order" as far as the versions go:

8.0 LTS is a "Long Term Support" release which will remain supported for up to 3 years but receive no new features in that time.  There will be patches / fixes released for it.  These will be versioned 8.0.1, 8.0.2 and so on.  The theory is that this will ease upkeep and minimize user training requirements.

8.1 is a Feature Release.  If you choose to install this, you are off the LTS "track" and will be obliged to keep installing the "dot" release to stay current / fully supported.

When 9.0 LTS comes out (in theory, in a year or less) you will then receive all the new features that were in the 8.x Feature Releases.  Again the intent here is to minimize time spent on maintenance and potential re-training for end user facing feature updates.

Thanks, Yep under stand the new world order. We dont wish to be on LTS and dont want to install it to then install 8.1 to come off it. 

So as it stand 8.1 has not been released even though there is a semi download link for it? We are wait to jump to 8.1 as we have issues where we are right now

Apologies if I was a bit repetitive but IMO, the outbound communication on this LTS vs. Feature Release deal has never been very clear on the why's and wherefore's.
