Every update to One Identity Active Roles is made in response to feedback from our customers. From adapting to improve usability or streamlining administration processes, our product development is always centered around solving the nuanced problems IT teams face every day.
We’re excited to share the five recent updates we’ve made to Active Roles, including:
- Flexible, configurable UI that can be tailored to each specific user
- Support for the most popular scripting languages
- Thick client interface designed to be familiar and easy to use for AD Admins
1. Flexible, configurable UI can be tailored to each specific user
Some users have noted that the graphical user interface could be more intuitive.
Active Roles has a configurable UI which enables customers to create their own view per their requirements. This provides tremendous value to customers because it allows them to structure the application towards each persona using it, ensuring everyone has access to only what they need.
2. Support for the most popular scripting languages
Users of Active Roles noted that they need more than VBScript for scripting, as having only a single scripting language was limiting flexibility for users accustomed to other languages.
Active Roles supports VBScript and Powershell, the two most popular scripting languages used for interacting with AD and Entra ID. It was designed with customers’ needs in mind, and taking care to support the most frequently used tools in the identity space.
3. Thick client interface designed to be familiar and easy to use for AD Admins
Active Roles provides two interfaces: a thick client and a web interface. The thick client mimics the Microsoft interface for Active Directory, so it’s very easy to use and understand for users of Active Directory.
4. Active roles is an AD/Entra ID identity security solution that offers value unlike any other
Active Roles is generally considered a higher-priced solution. However, it is one of the most scalable and stable solutions on the market for protecting and managing Active Directory, Entra ID and Microsoft 365.
Its core features offer fine-grained delegation and access control along with a consolidated view of all domains and tenants. These features are not available from any other vendor. The price is commensurate with the value customers gain from the solution.
5. Active Roles AD/Entra ID/M365 security and management works well with IGA solutions
There seems to be a bit of confusion about the specific pain points solved by IGA and AD management as distinct components of IAM.
We have heard, “Active Roles is not a full IGA suite like One Identity Manager,” and that is because Active Roles is not meant to be a full identity governance platform.
Our AD/Entra ID security and management solution provides added value features that can be used to protect, streamline and improve the efficiency of any Microsoft-based identity environment, even one with an IGA solution in place.
In fact, deploying Active Roles is a great way to clean up your Active Directory prior to implementing an IGA solution, and can be used to provide fine-grained delegation and access control of all AD domains and Entra ID and Microsoft 365 tenants from a single console, alongside IGA.
