Reactivating aborted PWOs after they were accidentally aborted

A customer wanted to replace the old workflow on the ServiceCategory and they removed it and saved the item. Because there was no alternative workflow, all the requests were aborted with the reason “Automatic system approval: Assigned Element was deleted or workflow has changed.”.

 Is there any way to reassigned those requests, or it is the only possible way that the users request these items again? The direct assignment isn’t an option, we thought, that we prepare a special Shop for these users only and add a selfservice workflow and Administrator then puts in the requests for them. Or is there any other recommended approach?
