About this release

Welcome to syslog-ng Store Box. This document describes what is new in the latest version of syslog-ng Store Box (SSB).

For a full description on stable and feature releases, open the SSB product page on the Support Portal and navigate to Product Life Cycle & Policies > Product Support Policies > Software Product Support Lifecycle Policy.

NOTE: Due to complexity of deployment, configuration, and design, you may require assistance from One Identity Professional Services while introducing new or additional:

  • sources

  • destinations

  • log paths

  • significant increases in log volume.

Supported platforms

syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) is supported on the following hardware and virtual platforms.

Supported hardware platforms

SSB is supported on the following hardware platforms:

  • syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) Appliance 3000

  • syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) Appliance 3500

  • syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) Appliance 4000

Supported virtual platforms

SSB is supported on the following virtual platforms:

  • VMware ESXi server 4.0 or later

  • Microsoft Hyper-V

  • Microsoft Azure

  • Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (AWS EC2)

Caution: From SSB version 7.0.1 LTS onwards, the following hardware appliances are no longer supported:

  • syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) T1

  • syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) T4

  • syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) T10

New features

New features in SSB 7.0.1 LTS:

  • From version 7.0.1 LTS, SSB introduced support for syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) Appliance 4000.

    NOTE: Starting from version 7.0.1 LTS, syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) supports the SSB 4000 appliance. However, the usual upgrade path to the newest feature version is supported only if the feature version to which you want to upgrade also supports the SSB 4000 appliance. Because of this, for example, you cannot upgrade from version 7.0.1 LTS to version 7.2F.

  • The operating system underlying the SSB appliance has been upgraded. The upgrade brings you a more recent and a more secure version of the operating system, with longer support lifetime.

  • Starting from this release, you must activate the secondary node of an SSB cluster at the end of a HA SSB cluster upgrade process.
