Global Survey Results 2020 - Barriers to Adoption of Zero Trust

Organizations struggle to harness the full security capabilities of Microsoft Active Directory (AD) and Azure Active Directory (AAD), and as a result are unable to implement industry best-practice security measures – such as zero-trust – which could dramatically increase the protection level of their IT environments.

When asked: “What were the top impacts of the last year on your organization’s identity management team?” results included:

  • 37 percent of IT professionals we most challenged by the rapid changes in their AD/AAD environment
  • Azure Active Directory users reported slightly more challenges than on-prem AD users
  • 89 percent of respondents said they had concerns about storing credentials in the cloud
  • 48 percent of IT professionals stated that the importance of provisioning and deprovisioning of AD/AAD increased in the past 12 months
  • 31 percent attributed COVID-19 to increased prioritization of access request and cloud infrastructure investment
  • 49 percent reported they will continue to operate in a hybrid AD/AAD environment for the foreseeable future 
  • 66 percent said COVID-related efforts have increased confidence in their identity management program
  • 60 percent reported more confidence in the security and management of privileged accounts due to COVID-related efforts

About the One Identity Global Survey 2020 

The One Identity Global Survey 2020 consisted of an online survey conducted by Dimensional Research of IT professionals at midsize or large organizations, whose role includes security responsibilities. A total of 1,216 individuals from the U.S., Canada, U.K., Germany, France, Benelux, Nordics, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong completed the survey. Responses were captured between Aug. 20 and Sept. 3, 2020.
